This looks like so much fun! I have a Bernina with a stitch regulator. It's the only way I can FMQ!
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a swap I would love. I am looking for a sewing machine too. I cant recommend, but would love to come back and read the comments and make some notes. Now for what I want. FOR IT TO CUT..
ReplyDeleteThe favorite feature of my seeing machine is the needle up/down button. On my old machine it would take forever to do appliqué and quilting. It makes sewing so much smoother!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite feature of my Bernina is the thing that lets you control the pressure foot without using your hands. Gosh, I can't think of what it's called now but you use your knee to push this lever thing (it's removable) and it's really nice if you have something shifty that you want to keep both your hands on!
ReplyDeleteI love the automatic button holer. (husqvarna emerald 116)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite feature on my sewing machine is the variety of stitches!
ReplyDeleteI love that it has a threader (but don't buy mine. It sucks.) Viking Sapphire 835.
ReplyDeleteI love my quarter inch foot...it's pretty darn accurate!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing is also the needle up/down feature. I have an 18 year old Bernina and am looking for a new machine also. I checked out the Bernina 820 and loved the jumbo bobbin, stitch regulator and the dual feed. Also liked the center display. Pretty sure it's the one I'm going with. This charm swap looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI've got an older Bernina that doesn't have a lot of features - just a basic solid workhorse. I think my criteria when I got it was that it needed to stitch forward and backward! If I were to buy a new machine, I think I'd want more decorative stitches than I have (I've got 2, I think), but it's more likely that I'll look into sergers first. Although I got a chance to play with Bernina's Series 8 and if I had the space and the funds, I'd get one of those!
ReplyDeleteI have a 1960's era Singer that spent t's early life in a sewing school. The onlytreaties I like about it is you wind the bobbin in the bobbin holder without unthreading the machine. I guess the other thing I like is that it truly is a workhorse. As much as I want to replace it, I won't need to anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteI have a Janome 6600 and love it! My favorite features are the needle threader, auto cutter and extended arm space for quilting. There isn't anything I don't love about this machine.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of the traveling charms and have been trying to win so I can play along.
ReplyDeleteMy machine is old but one thing I would love to have when I get a new machine is a "needle down" position.
I personally love my Viking Sapphire 835. It has every feature that I could ever want and it's been a workhorse! I love the threader, and the "fix" option.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a real fancy machine. I have a Brother 6000i. It has a lot of features for quilters--walking foot, extended bed,
ReplyDeleteability to do FMQ, built in stitches, etc. I also have a treadle
machine that I also love to quilt with. Would love to join in with the Traveling Charms...I have a stash of charm squares that
I could share. It's always great to get new charms, too!

I have a Pfaff Smart 200c which I don't think is being made anymore, but I am happy with it. I love the needle down button, but I am sure that is a standard feature on machines now. I wish it had an extension table, but at least I can buy a generic one of those to fit!
ReplyDeleteI have Pfaff 350 and my favorite feature are the different stitches. Judith, Texas
ReplyDeleteI have a Janome HD1000. I haven't had it too long, but I do love it. I don't know if a have a favorite feature. Good luck with finding a new machine!
ReplyDeleteI just got a new sewing machine for my bday and my favorite feature on it is all the decorative stitches it offers! Thanks for the chance to be a part of this!!!
ReplyDeleteMy sewing machine is not fancy, so I cont help you there, but not favorite part of my sewing machine are the different stiches and the walking foot. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI have a basic Singer. Although I do like some of the stitches it makes and the fact that it has a threader....don't buy my machine. It's great for basic things. But when you start using delicate fabrics it tends to eat them down into the bobbin area. Or if you use fluffy fabrics (the cuddle stuff) the bobbin itself freaks out.
ReplyDeleteThe large throat on mine makes ALL the difference in quilting larger projects!
ReplyDeleteI have a Viking Emerald and I like that it's pretty basic. I don't feel intimidated like I would if I had a super fancy machine (since I just recently started sewing), but it does have enough to make it functional - needle up/down, threader.
ReplyDeleteI love the 1/4" inch foot with a guide. Helps me to have great seams.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite feature is the fact it can sew. I am not one that could hand do any thing (it goes to slow) so I like the fact I can crank the speed up and zip though and sew material together.
ReplyDeletehmm, i love the fact that mine is solid as hell and has no digital/electronic features whatsoever. (aside from the plug... that is!) it's from the early sixties, back when things were made to last forever and were fixable by ordinary human beings. I'm ornry like that! now, if i could afford a fancy new one with all the features, i'd want one with an automatic thread snipper. that just sounds too incredible!
ReplyDeleteSmall as it is, I love the automatic needle threader! Saves me bunches of time!

I have a 20-year old Pfaff, and my FAVORITE feature is the built-in walking foot. Makes it so easy to get layers to go through the machine at the same speed and prevent puckering. I've been eyeing the new Berninas because I love the BSR feature, but the walking foot is an attachment and so clunky. Seems like you can't get every feature you would like in a machine. There are always trade-offs, aren't there?
