ReplyDeleteI don't sew little gifts - I usually buy most gifts and one or two people get quilts (throw size or larger). For my friends, I like to make chocolate truffles and I can a lot of apple butter in the fall and send out packages with a jar of apple butter and a tin of truffles.
ReplyDeleteI just purchased Elizabeth Hartman's Perfect Zip Bags pattern, and I cannot stop making them. The pattern offers so much variety, and then when you layer on all of the fabric and embellishment options, there are possibilities for everyone. I have made 5 so far and plan to keep on making them right up until the holidays.

I love making "mug rugs" because I can not only use scraps, but I feel like I can be more creative with such a little space so I have tried some crazy things and they have turned out great! You also can personalize such a little thing, as you get older you have more and more people to give gifts to and you can make a lot more of these than quilts and bags (though nice too!)

I like to make cookies. i make 60-100 dozen in the week before Xmas (crazy, I know) and then everyone gets a giant reusable tupperware container filled with their favourite cookies. (I've been doing this for about 10 years, and every year people have feedback like "I could do with a little bit more fudge next time" or "too many of these have coconut in them" so I've pretty much got cookie selection down to a science now.)
