Follower Friday

Andddd, we're back! We took a hiatus last week, partially because I was so burnout I completely forgot and partially because the features follower forgot! Whoops on both of our parts..

This week we have
Jess!

Specs:

Name: Jess
Family: Three kids (7, 5 and 1) and a lovely, supportive partner who even listens patiently to me
waffle on about quilts :o). Well sometimes – there is a limit to how much he’ll listen to!
Location: Tasmania, Australia
Flickr: TheElvenGarden
Twitter: @TheElvenGarden

Day job: Now, I’m a work/stay at home mum but BC (before children) I was a microbiologist/biochemist. I have a vintage pattern shop on etsy and sometimes make quilts to sell (or take commissions).
Dream job: Getting a long arm and quilting my own and other people’s quilts (I have tentative approval from my other half on this which is exciting!!)

What are you working on now? My Retro Flowers quilt, the Stained QAL, a baby quilt and an iPad case - I like to keep busy ;o)

Favorites:
Place: My house and garden (kind of sad… but it’s pretty wonderful)
Movie: The Lord of The Rings trilogy (I can say all three can’t I?)
Food: Sushi!
Way to spend a Friday night: This is really sad, but quilting! Or watching a movie…
Fabric line: Tough one! Silent Cinema by Jenean Morrison is a big fave, but I’m a bit obsessed with Lizzy House (especially 1001 Peeps), and all things Melody Miller

Color: Green
Designer: Melody Miller (the typewriters take the cake!!)
Project completed by you: Probably my 1001 peeps quilt I made for my daughter. But I also love my entry into the modern mini quilt challenge. I can’t show you my other favorite yet ;o)

Project when you need a quick finish: Baby quilts – using one of my very simple designs.

Least Favorites:
Color: Pink – although it’s starting to grow on me, depending on what other colours are with it.
Fabric line: I’m not a big fan of really traditional prints and dull colours. Not sure of a specific line, I tend to only look at what appeals to me!
Project completed by you: Probably the commissioned quilt I made using Under the Australian Sun (fabric chosen by my customer) – looked quite good, but not something I would choose to make.

Big plans for 2012? I recently made my first paper pieced quilt which was something I really wanted to conquer this year – and I’d like to do more paper piecing. I’m about to have a tutorial published which I am sooooo excited about (stay tuned for more info on this – can’t share details yet but it’s a doozy!). I’m about to tackle my first curvy quilt (Retro Flowers). And I’ll be co-hosting a QAL later in the year with Jess from Scrappy n Happy (maybe June, depends how organized we are!) Apart from that, whatever crops up (which it always does!)

Outfoxed on the High Seas
(seriously! how awesome is this!)

Thank you Jess!
Personally, her outfoxed quilt is among my top 5 favorites i've seen in blogland and
she has a tutorial on her blog for the block! Definitely on my to-do list.
New long-arm quilter?? hmm, keep an eye on this one everyone I know
i'd be ready to send mine your way Jess!

If you'd like to be featured
email me at

Have a nice weekend everyone!

  4. Dude. I am seriously so in love with Jess' 1001 Peeps Quilt. I'm sure she knows that since I stole her left overs, but for reals. I would LOVE that quilt!
