ReplyDeleteI make these fantastic little shortbread cookies called "Elfin Shortbread" THey are about an inch square each, so you can eat 20 of them without feeling guilty.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite christmas cookies are Vanillekipferln (vanilla crescents in english :)). The best ones were made by my great aunt which sadly passed away a few years ago. And you can't buy really good ones.

ReplyDeleteChocolate pillows: butter cookie dough formed into long strips with a cookie press, topped with pieces of chocolate at regular intervals and another strip of dough on the top. I have no idea where my mom got the recipe but they are a long-time family favorite from my childhood.

ReplyDeleteI've always loved plain old sugar cookies, cut out and decorated, of course! My mom would roll out enough dough for hundreds of them, and my brothers and sisters and I would spend all day cutting and decorating. Best memories!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite is a recipe from great grandmother! They are called Mama Grayce's Originals. They are little tarts of puffed pastry filled with a brown sugar and coconut filling. They are then glazed with either an orange or lemon glaze. Yummy!

Well, my Dad actually makes them at New Year's and I wait All Year for them: an Italian cookie called cenci (I think that's the right spelling) / a Polish cookie called kruschiki - they're basically the same thing and both of my parents ate them as children under different names. They're a simple dough, rolled out paper thin and tied in knots, then fried so they go all light-as-air and bubbly, then coated with powdered sugar. Heavenly!
